ULM Fraternity Wins National Award

The Epsilon Gamma Chapter of Iota Phi Fraternity, Inc. was recently named the 2003-2005 Undergraduate Chapter of the Year at the organization's 30th International Conclave in Columbus, Ohio. The award was presented by the 18th International Grand Polaris, Steven T. Birdine.

The award is presented biannually to one of the fraternity's one hundred and eighty undergraduate chapters the Grand Council deems exceptional in the areas of community service, campus involvement and dedication to uplifting the principles of the social service fraternity.

This marks the first win for the chapter since being established on the ULM campus in January 2000. Epsilon Gamma was also named chapter of the year for the Southern Region, which consist Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Iota Phi Theta, the fifth historically African American fraternity in the nation, was founded September 19, 1963 at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. Iota Phi Theta is committed to working towards the development and perpetuation of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity and brotherhood among men. The organization has nearly twenty thousand members internationally.
