Cody Lewis, Kevin Kilpatrick, William Davis and Tammy Whitlock researched technology plans across Louisiana and the nation before they determined there were four different technological needs at the school.

The graduate students each defined an action step for the PVA Technology Plan that will take the school step-by-step through strategies that will enable school officials to complete extensive changes in their technology by 2014.

The students said developing the plan was an excellent opportunity for them to assist in the development of the school’s goals, while also giving the school support that will help improve its technological capacity over the next four years.

“The creation of the technology plan was a great idea because it gave us real-world experience while helping Prairie View Academy, a small school that cannot afford to hire a technology coordinator,” said Whitlock, who also serves on the Board of Directors at the academy.

Whitlock said because Prairie View is a small school and the principal fulfills many roles, the plan was designed to provide much-needed assistance in an area of technology leadership.

“It was a great feeling to be able to actually apply what we are learning here at ULM and to give back to one of our local communities,” added Lewis, who finished his Master’s degree in Educational Technology Leadership this summer.

“We are extending the impact of ULM's College of Education by using our intellectual capital and expertise to help a small private school with limited resources,” he said.
