The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the premier national agency on accreditation for nursing programs, recently notified the School of Nursing at the University of Louisiana that its baccalaureate degree program received re-accreditation for another 10-year term.

The accreditation team specifically cited ULM's School of Nursing for excellence and made no recommendations for change.

The CCNE Board of Commissioners determined that the ULM nursing program met all four accreditation standards following an on-site evaluation in April.

Those standards include an assessment of program quality in the areas of mission and governance; institutional commitment and resources; curriculum, teach-learning practices and individual student learning outcomes; and aggregate student performance and faculty accomplishments. The accreditation is effective April 12, 2010 – Dec. 31, 2020.

ULM's nursing graduates consistently exceed state and national average scores on the National Council Licensure Examination, a test considered the final hurdle in a nursing student's career.

In October, the School of Nursing celebrated its grand re-opening in a newly remodeled building as it also celebrated with the public its 50th anniversary. The program is now the largest department in the College of Health Sciences and one of the largest in the university.
