Michael Cossey, a junior from Monticello, Ark., won honorable mention in layout and design and second place in submitted design work. Cynthia Jackson, a West Monroe sophomore, took third place in story rewrites and Jacob Power, an Alexandria junior, took second in column writing. Power's work will be a feature of The Atlanta Journal Constitution. The students, all members of The Pow Wow, ULM's student newspaper, competed against approximately 175 students in submitted work and on-site journalism contests. The students also attended seminars on lead writing, ethics, digital photography, leadership and editorial writing. The SEJC is a consortium of mass communications departments with the purpose of offering professional development to students. |
