Wind and Jazz Ensembles perform at regional music
conference Feb. 22
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble I will perform a concert Thursday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Jack Howard Auditorium of the Monroe Civic Center to open the second South Central Regional Music Conference.
Special guest for the Wind Ensemble portion of the performance will be Emmy Award winning composer Julie Giroux.
Giroux grew up in Monroe and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School. Her formal college training was at LSU and Boston University. A large part of her career has been spent in Los Angeles as a composer, orchestrator, and arranger for television and film.
To date, Giroux has over 100 films and television credits and has been nominated for an Emmy several times, particularly for her arranging and orchestrations for the Academy Awards show. When she won her first Emmy Award, she was the first woman and the youngest person ever to win the award in that category.
Larry Anderson directs the ULM Jazz Ensemble I. Derle R. Long conducts the Wind Ensemble.
There is a $5 admission charge for individuals who are not registered conference attendees. The conference will continue at the Monroe Civic Center Feb. 22 24.
