The University of Louisiana at Monroe recently hosted experts in the fields of sports medicine and athletic performance training as well as nationally recognized football stars for its “Summit of Strength & Conditioning and Sports Medicine Leaders” on Feb. 19-20.

The summit welcomed more than 350 registrants for the two-day conference, offered through a partnership between the ULM Letterwinner’s Club, Graduate School, and Department of Kinesiology. Students from several regional institutions participated in the conference and individuals from 22 different states and countries – including some as far away as Canada, Australia, Mexico – descended on the campus for the unique offering.

The Summit was the vision of ULM graduate and National Football League Hall of Fame member Al Miller. Notable speakers for the conference included Dan Reeves, Ron Hill and Chris Mortensen, all also of the NFL.

“To my knowledge an event like this that includes this caliber of speakers all in one area has never occurred,” Miller said. “I am proud that my alma mater was able to provide this great experience for the community and coaches. I’ve always said that if you help one coach, you help 1,000 kids. Needless to say, we were able to help a lot of kids with this event.”

A total of 17 champions, hall of famers, and top sport medicine professionals assembled at ULM in an unprecedented display for an instructional clinic.

“The initial feedback from the presenters and participants has been overwhelmingly positive of not only the event, but also the Monroe community and ULM. We were glad to be able to host this event and hope it is only the first of many. The word continues to spread, and demand for a second event in the future has already begun.”
