The ULM Department of Communicative Disorders has been notified by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association that its graduate program has again demonstrated compliance with the accreditation standards related to student preparation.

The program has maintained accreditation since 1991. The academic and clinical components of the graduate program train students for careers as speech-language pathologists in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, schools, and private practice. In addition to academic preparation, students receive clinical training and experience in the ULM Speech and Hearing Clinic, the Admiral E.A. Barham Scottish Rite Clinic, and at off-campus internship sites.

Dr. Judy Fellows, department head of Communicative Disorders, said, “Maintaining accreditation is a daily process in both the classroom and clinic. I commend the faculty and staff for their commitment to the students and clients we serve.”

This significant conclusion in meeting the ASHA certification standards comes as no surprise to Dr. Denny Ryman, dean of the College of Health Sciences. “Speech-Language Pathology continues their long tradition of excellence, and receiving this certification not only guarantees students an exceptional professional education but also guarantees potential employers that our graduates rate among the best in the country. I congratulate Dr. Fellows, faculty and staff for this accomplishment.”
