The work of three assistant professors of clinical pharmacy practice at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is featured in this month’s online and print publication of U.S. Pharmacist.

Jamie Terrell, Pharm.D., Heather Cox, Pharm.D., and Jeffery Evans, Pharm.D., wrote "Immunizations in the Older Population" for the current edition of the publication. Their work may be found on the online version’s home page at www.uspharmacist.com.

The article details the responsibility of health care providers to guide elderly patients in obtaining the appropriate immunizations according to their specific situations, such as travel abroad.

The article concludes that since many elderly patients are taking chronic medications, the pharmacist may be one of the first members of the health care team the patient might access, and should therefore be prepared for the encounter.
