The award gives Professor Girish Shah, Ph.D., an additional five-year funding period in which to perform his research of calcitonin in prostate growth and neoplasia, and is expected to exceed one million dollars by August 2014. “The research will help us understand why this cancer spreads to other organs and increase the treatment options for the disease,” said Shah. “ULM is fortunate to have the kind of high-caliber faculty and quality of research routinely performed in its College of Pharmacy,” said ULM President James E. Cofer. Added Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy Greg Leader, “This NCI award is evidence of the high quality research being conducted in Dr. Shah's Laboratory and in the ULM College of Pharmacy. Dr. Shah and his work are examples of the significant contributions the College and its faculty make to health care and health care research.” |
