Equinox Jazz Orchestra coming to ULM’s Brown Auditorium Aug. 21

Jeremy Davis and The Fabulous Jazz Equinox Orchestra are scheduled to return to Brown Auditorium at the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus on Saturday, Aug. 21.

The 20-piece ensemble, now based in Savannah, Ga., began in Monroe and features some of music industry’s greatest vocalists as the musicians perform the works of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Connick Jr., Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Johnny Mercer and Tony Bennett.

The Head of the Division of Music at ULM said he believes bringing the jazz orchestra to campus fulfills the purpose of the Visual and Performing Arts Division.

“By hosting a musical group of such caliber,” said Dr. Derle Long, “we show we are the cultural center for the region by providing a wide variety of art experiences throughout the year.”

ULM’s Associate Dean of VAPA Dr. Matthew James said the orchestra is “truly one of the finest Jazz orchestras before the public today and we are delighted to have them on our campus again.”

He continued, “the players are so versatile and the programming so diverse that there will be something for everyone to enjoy. "

Last year the orchestra performed in front of a packed house of jazz and music aficionados, and is promising to be another brilliant show this year.
