Assistant Professor Boniface J. Mills will partner with meteorologists at the National Weather Service Forecasting Office located in Shreveport to study heavy precipitation events over Louisiana and neighboring states. The grant pays for research materials and travel to national conferences. ULM is one of only 10 U.S. universities to receive the award for the 2009 calendar year and is one of the few universities in the southern region to have a Weather Event Simulator. Weather Event Simulators are usually only found at NWS offices or NWS-National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration research facilities. Case studies used in the research are provided by NWS at no charge. |
