ULM campus family celebrates World Blood Donor Day

University of Louisiana at Monroe faculty, staff and students celebrated World Blood Donor Day on June 14, donning red shirts during the recent LifeShare blood drive and “giving the gift of life.” They posed for a group picture that, when taken from a distance, is meant to look like a single blood drop.

“We hold the event every year to express gratitude to those who donate their blood in order to save lives, without expecting anything in return,” said Stacy Thornton donor recruiter for LifeShare Blood Centers of Monroe.

Thornton said that in the summer the need for blood increases while blood donations typical decrease. She said donors “give the gift that costs nothing to give” and World Blood Donor Day provides a special opportunity for a united, global celebration of that fact.

The LifeShare bloodmobile will be back at the ULM campus on July 20 and 21.
