Noe Laine to donate an original “Battle Hymn of the Republic” manuscript to ULM March 17

Linda Noe Laine will donate an original, authenticated manuscript of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," written in Julia Ward Howe's hand, to ULM Monday, March 17 at 10 a.m. in the University Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the ULM Library.

Her attorney has confirmed that while it is an authenticated, original manuscript, it is not necessarily the original. There were probably "several manuscript copies made at the time the piece was composed." The manuscript has been authenticated by a paper conservator who supervised its restoration and framing.

Ms. Laine also acquired and framed a rare photograph of Julia Ward Howe. Both the manuscript and the photograph will be donated to ULM.

A ULM student choir will perform the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Media and the general public are welcome to attend the event. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
