ULM Band performs March 13; last concert before journey to Ireland
The Department of Bands at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will present a dual concert on Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium. This concert will feature the Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Jason Rinehart, and the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Derle R. Long. There is no admission charge.
The Symphonic Band will feature the music of Malcolm Arnold, Percy Grainger, Richard Saucedo, and Fred Allen. The Wind Ensemble will perform a piece by Richard Saucedo as well as the music of Luigi Zaninelli, Jack Stamp, and John Philip Sousa. Guest soloists with the Wind Ensemble will be Dr. Susan Olson and Dr. Claire Vangelisti, voice professors in the ULM Division of Music.
This concert is the last public performance by the ULM Band before they begin a tour of Ireland for the festivities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day. The band departs March 14. A highlight of the trip will be the group’s participation in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin on March 17. The tour includes visits to Trinity College, St. Michan’s Church, shopping on Grafton Street in downtown Dublin, and a visit to the Celtic Crystal factory in Moycullen, just outside Galway City. The band returns to Monroe on March 21.
