Dr. Preston Jones published his work in theoretical physics for the journal in collaboration with Gerardo Munoz at Fresno State University. The article presents a compelling demonstration of the exact nature of the equivalence principle, which states that the gravitational and inertial mass are indistinguishable.
“The equivalence principle was taken by Einstein as the conceptual foundation of general relativity and had been generally assumed to be exact,” said Jones.
“However, over the past 30 years a growing number of theoretical physicists have challenged the exactness of the principle. The present paper settles this issue in favor of Einstein and demonstrates that the principle of equivalence is correct in general relativity,” he said.
The article is the second published in the American Journal of Physics by Dr. Jones. He joined the physics faculty at ULM in January 2007.
