The Department of Radiologic Technology represented the University of Louisiana at Monroe well at this year’s Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists Midwinter Conference.

The LSRT conference, held Feb. 26-27 in Shreveport, is an invaluable resource for high quality continuing education in the field of radiologic technology.

Chi Beta Gamma, the professional student organization for Radiologic Technology, also traveled to the conference to provide strong representation for ULM. The dedication to quality and excellence demonstrated by the ULM faculty and students resulted in many accomplishments at this year’s conference, according to ULM Assistant Professor and LSRT Second Vice President Andy Allen.

Allen, who also serves as the Louisiana Educators in Radiologic Sciences Chair, coordinated the annual student review program in which educators from ULM and Northwestern Louisiana State University assisted in the preparation of students for taking their national registry exam. As part of this program, Allen presented a student lecture titled, “Patient Care.”

Program Director and LRST First Vice President Brett Bennett of ULM also presented a student lecture titled, “Equipment Maintenance and Operation.” Both Allen and Bennett also served as judges for the student bee competition, in which several ULM students were highly successful.

Courtney Allen, a junior from Kentwood, placed first in the junior competition, and seniors Hannah Greer of Jonesboro and Amanda Moreau of Pollock placed second and third, respectively, in the senior competition.

All other ULM students attending the conference participated in the competition as well, and as a result were awarded a $100 prize for having the highest percentage of participation.

In addition to the student competitions, Kennarius Giles, a senior from Shreveport who serves as student advisory council chair, conducted the Student Advisory Council business meeting, which includes student representatives from all of the state’s imaging science programs.

ULM students also represented the university well during the annual election for officers to the Student Advisory Council; Junior Kevin Wiater of Slidell was elected chair and Senior Clint Hairston of Monroe was elected vice chair.
