ULM medical laboratory science student awarded Siemens-ASCP Scholarship
ULM medical laboratory science student Jessica Madden is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Scholarship awards are available for students in their final year of study in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences-accredited Medical Laboratory Science program, like ULM's.
Madden is a senior in the ULM Medical Laboratory Science Program and is currently completing her last semester of practicum rotations.
She is scheduled to graduate in May 2012.
"Jessica is a conscientious, focused student who strives for excellence in her course work in the classroom and in the laboratory," said Medical Laboratory Science Department Head and Program Director Debbie Wisenor.
"She has excellent critical thinking skills and demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, qualities which make her an asset to the medical laboratory profession and the entire healthcare team. Jessica is very deserving of this prestigious national scholarship. The MLS faculty and students are extremely proud of her."
Annually, the American Society of Clinical Pathology and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics celebrate the future of the medical laboratory profession by awarding scholarships to students who have achieved a level of success that merits recognition.
Scholarships assist the students in balancing their full-time studies and expenses which arise in the course of their educational endeavors.
ASCP and Siemens awarded more than $125,000 in scholarships in 2011-2012.
As a result of the scholarships, ASCP and Siemens continue to address the critical shortage of medical laboratory professionals in the United States.
ASCP is grateful for the generosity of its members and to Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics for their support to future medical laboratory professionals.
The American Society for Clinical Pathology is the world's largest professional membership organization for pathologists and laboratory professionals.
ASCP's mission is to provide excellence in education, certification and advocacy on behalf of patients, pathologists and laboratory professionals across the globe.
With more than 100,000 members, the society's influence has guided the application and evolution of the pathology and laboratory medicine specialty since 1922.
