The Institute of Law Enforcement at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will be conducting a series of three seminars on starting Monday, Nov. 4 through Nov. 8. The first seminar, "Basic Crime Scene Investigation" will provide students with a basic knowledge of crime scene investigation and will cover such topics as preservation of the crime scene, crime scene search, sketching and measuring the crime scene, photographing the crime scene, fingerprinting the crime scene and collection and preservation of trace evidence. It will be held Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will cost $60.
The second seminar, "Searching, Measuring and Documenting the Crime Scene" will teach the principles applicable to reconstruction, collection, and recording at crime scenes. This instruction will include various types of crime scenes, including indoor and well as outdoor reconstructions and documentation. It will be held Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will cost $60.
During the third seminar, "Interviews and Interrogations: A Behavioral Analysis Seminar," students will study procedures for conducting effective behavioral interviews and interrogations and will impart to the student the ability to detect deception and elicit confessions from suspects. Emphasis will be placed upon establishing officer/suspect rapport while detecting verbal deception by interpreting gestures, body movements, and facial expressions. It will be held Nov. 6-8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will cost $200.
