On Tuesday, Nov. 28 in front of the Nursing Building, atmospheric sciences students will get an up-close look at an emergency response trailer used during natural disasters such as hurricanes. The demonstration, which is open to the general public, will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Gary Galloway, director of Newton County Mississippi Emergency Management, and several of his colleagues, will demonstrate the capabilities of the high-tech emergency response trailer, which was used on the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Katrina.

The trailer, which is equipped with high-speed Internet capability, has a satellite communications network that allows satellite radio transmission.

The emergency response trailer can be assembled in matter of minutes.

The educational value of Tuesday’s demonstrations is significant, said Rob Howard, assistant professor of atmospheric sciences. “This will provide students with an opportunity to speak to knowledgeable officials about emergency management and subsequent career opportunities related to the atmospheric sciences.”
