The commencement will begin at 2 p.m., Dec. 13, in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Dr. Moffett was appointed the seventh president of the UL System in July 2008. As UL System President, he oversees eight universities, including ULM, which combined with other universities serves approximately 80,000 students through a total operating budget of over $740 million. Dr. Moffett previously served seven years as president of Southeastern Louisiana University. He guided Southeastern through the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, when the university opened its doors and accepted more than 1,600 New Orleans area college students so that they could continue their higher education pursuits with fewer interruptions. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and has been active with the United Way. He is a strong advocate of student service learning, where students combine academic pursuits with service to their communities. He also serves on the President’s Leadership Group of the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention – the only university president in Louisiana to be named to this prestigious organization. Dr. Moffett is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and earned a master’s degree from Northwestern State University. He was awarded a doctorate in educational administration from LSU in 1980 and received an honorary doctorate from the Ibero-American Council for Excellence in Education in 2007. He has also completed studies at the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University.
