ULM history professor presents paper at Canadian Conference

Dr. Roger Carpenter presented the paper at the American Society for Ethnohistory Conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
"The letter of the law was often not followed and the magistrates had some leeway," explained Carpenter.
The American Society for Ethnohistory brings together over 1,200 scholars and related members to promote the interdisciplinary investigation of the histories of the Native Peoples of the Americas.
The ethnohistorical method involves developing histories informed by ethnography, linguistics, archaeology, and ecology. The Society is the preeminent international organization in the field and sponsors the journal Ethnohistory. The journal may be found at www.dukeupress.edu/ethnohistory.
The Society began as an outgrowth of the research done for the Indian Claims Act of 1946.
