Dr. Paul Sylvester, the Pfizer Endowed Professor of Pharmacology at ULM's College of Pharmacy, recently delivered a talk at the Oils and Fats International Congress 2010 (OFIC 2010) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sylvester was invited to update attendees on recent advances in tocotrienol research and its role in the prevention and treatment of cancer during the Nutrition and Health module portion of the meeting, which was held Oct. 20-22.

Sylvester, who also serves as director of Graduate Studies and Research in the COP, has led students in researching ways to combine a rare form of vitamin E with low doses of traditional chemotherapy. The combination not only resulted in a significantly enhanced therapeutic response, but also eliminated the severe toxic side effects associated with high dose cancer chemotherapy.
