Delta Filmworks Series Continues

The Delta FilmWorks fall documentary film series will continue this Thursday night on the ULM campus. The series, titled Truth and Fiction, features 5 documentary films, each introduced by a 25-minute lecture.

A grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities is helping to make the series possible.

On Thursday, October 7, Delta FilmWorks will screen, Harlan County USA, an Academy Award-winning film by director Barbara Koppel. The film portrays the period of a strike in the 1970s by coalminers in Appalachia against a mine owned by Duke Energy.

The lecturer will be Susan Wible, a social worker from Monroe who lived in the area of Appalachia portrayed in the film during that time.

Admission is $10 ($8 for Delta FilmWorks members and $5 for students). The lecture begins at 7 p.m., followed by the screening at 7:30 p.m., with a short break between. The location is the Airway Sciences Building on Northeast Drive, just off Hwy 165.

The series is offered through the ULM Department of Continuing Education.
