She has participated in several grant-funded workshops for in-service/pre-service teachers, given numerous presentations, presented workshops, developed course materials, and attended both state and national conferences. Smith is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics, and Kappa Mu Epsilon. LATM recognizes and honors the accomplishments of outstanding mathematics educators throughout Louisiana. After nomination, candidates submit written documentation of their professional involvement in mathematics education, their accomplishments as mathematics teachers, and a description of a particularly memorable lesson or event, including an analysis of what made the lesson or event special. Dale Magoun, department head of mathematics, nominated Smith. Magoun and Rhonda Adams Jones, director of continuing education, provided letters of support for the nomination. |
