Community invited to view P-40 Warhawk Oct. 20

The community is invited to learn about the P-40 Warhawk airplane, an important tie to ULM’s new Warhawk mascot. The public is encouraged to attend a special viewing of the aircraft on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Monroe Air Center, just north of the main terminal. ULM’s Warhawk mascot has local historical connections to the P-40 Warhawk airplane, flown by northeast Louisiana's General Claire Chennault and the Flying Tigers during WWII.

President James Cofer and special guests WWII Pilot Dick Daggett, Rosemary Chennault Simrall (daughter of General Claire Chennault), and Ace, the ULM Warhawk, will be present at 1 p.m.

The aircraft will fly over during the beginning of the homecoming game, which begins at 6 p.m. in Malone Stadium, and during the first and second quarters.

For more information, call Jeff Taylor, assistant professor of aviation and management, at (318) 342-1786 or e-mail him at jtaylor@ulm.edu.
