October 8, 2009 ULM to host second professor in "Traveling Scholar" series Oct. 16 |
||||
Gust will present a lecture titled "Re-Thinking Location in Communication Pedagogy and Educational Autoethnography" open to students, faculty and the Monroe/West Monroe communities at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 in Stubbs 100. The lecture will cover how Gust turns to performative pedagogy, or the study of teaching as a cultural performance, in order to scrutinize his status as a gay male professor in predominantly Mormon Utah. Gust's research interests focus on sexuality and communication studies, highlighting his experiences in these areas. He has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including Educational Studies and Qualitative Inquiry and the Sage Encyclopedia of the Social and Cultural Foundations of Education. Gust is the second of three "traveling scholars" to participate in the series. Communications faculty member Dr. Lesli Pace is responsible for creating and coordinating the speaking events.
