ULM welcomes Celtic band Smithfield Fair Oct. 15

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Visual and Performing Arts department will host a concert by Celtic band Smithfield Fair at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 15, at the ULM Recital Hall. The band is performing at ULM as part of the larger Celtic Festival in Monroe.

Smithfield Fair is composed of Dudley-Brien, and Jan and Bob Smith and was formed in 1989. The band has released numerous albums with Centaur Records, including 2004’s “Winds of Time,” 2005’s “Swept Away,” 2006’s “Walking Through This World” and 2009’s “Twenty for Twenty,” celebrating their 20th anniversary.

Described as having a “folksy original sound [that] also pulls from jazz and other influences” by 225 Magazine in Baton Rouge, Smithfield Fair has entertained audiences around the world.

“We are delighted to have the members of Smithfield Fair as Guest Artists on our campus, and we are pleased that we can offer this concert in close proximity to the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival,” said Dr. Matthew James, director of VAPA.

Added James, “Celtic music has become very popular with a wide range of music-lovers, and this is an exciting opportunity for the School of Visual and Performing Arts to feature some of the finest performers in this field.”
