ULM graduate students win prestigious awards at national science conference
Three University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy graduate students in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences won the poster session awards presented in their respective sections at the 2011 Southeast Regional IDeA Meeting held in New Orleans Sept. 22 – 24.

Hisham Qosa, pharmaceutics graduate student in Dr. Amal Kaddoumi's laboratory, won in neuroscience. Sashikanth Banappagari, medicinal chemistry graduate student in Dr. Seetharama Satyanarayana-Jois' laboratory, won in computational biology.
Kaustaubh Bhinge, pharmacology graduate student in Dr. Yong-yu Liu's laboratory, won in cancer research.

"These prestigious awards emphasize the high merit of the research conducted in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as the excellent training and competence of our graduate students. We are very proud of the work done by Mr. Banappagari, Mr. Bhinge, and Mr. Qosa, under the capable supervision of their graduate advisors," said Department Head Dr. Karen Briski.
The national professional meeting hosted researchers from a variety of different states and a U.S. territory, including Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.
