Business Symposium offers students slice of real world

Several prominent business leaders and extraordinary citizens from across the country are educating students in the 2006 ULM Business Symposium, which began yesterday and ends Friday. This year’s theme is “Responsible Citizenship.”

One of the speakers is Robert Tucker, the federal security director of the Monroe Regional Airport. He will present “TSA Security” on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the ULM Conference Center. Tucker served as a special agent with the FBI for more than 30 years. He was assigned to the New York, N.Y. and Newark, N.J. field offices and FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Tucker worked for 16 years as a supervisor of the Violent Crimes Squad in the New Orleans office, where he supervised the investigation of all aviation-related crimes and other federal criminal violations. He also served as crisis management coordinator for the FBI in Louisiana and as a sector supervisor for crisis management at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On Friday, Liz Boulware will moderate “Futurephobia: We Heard You” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Brown Auditorium. Panelists include:

  • Bruce Boulware, chief operating officer, O’Melveny and Myers and a 1969 ULM alum
  • Danny Van, executive vice president, Regions Bank
  • Heath Arthur, vice president, Pine Valley Foods
  • Bruce Walker, Boulware Endowed Professor of Management
  • Two ULM business students.

Also on Friday, author Deena Burnett, a 1985 ULM alum, will speak about responsible citizenship at 11 a.m. in Brown Auditorium. The ULM Bookstore will sell copies of her book “Fighting Back: Living Life Beyond Ourselves” following the event, where patrons can get their books signed by Burnett.

These events are free and the ones mentioned in this release are open to the public.
