The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Office of Greek Life began the school year by hosting various recruitment events for the ULM student body.
The events give potential new members a chance to interact with active members from the 16 social Greek organizations on campus.
Selected events hosted by the organizations included the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s (NPHC) “Strut-Off,” a mixer and informational session held on Aug. 27, the National Panhellenic Council’s (NPC) formal recruitment week from Aug. 27 to Aug. 31 and the Interfraternity Council’s (IFC) preview week from Sep. 8 to Sep. 11.
The NPHC “Strut-Off” and informational are annual events typically held at the beginning of the fall semesters. Both of these events offer ULM students an opportunity to obtain information and ask questions about the NPHC’s intake process. This year, the events were a huge success and over 300 students participated.
NPC’s Formal Recruitment Week allowed prospective women on campus to register on-line and attend the formal process of joining a NPC sorority. The week’s events included “Bid Day” during which more than 70 women accepted commitments from one of the three sororities.
During the IFC’s Preview Week, prospective fraternity men went through a series of open houses called “Meet the Greeks” to find out more information about the fraternities at ULM. This year, more than 70 men accepted bids and IFC’s Bid Day included a live band tailgating party in the ULM Grove for the entire student body. ULM Student Government Association sponsored the event.
“It’s encouraging to see how hardworking and dedicated all of the 16 chapters are to improving the university community,” said Keith Hembree, coordinator of ULM Greek Life. “The number of students committing to ULM’s Greek Life this year accounts for the progressive nature and outstanding reputations reflected by the ULM chapters.”
