Dr. Mervin Kontrovitz, professor emeritus of geology, authored three articles recently published the United Kingdom. Each article concerns the paleoenvironmental reconstruction of sediment from castle moats associated with the reign of King Edward the First, known as “Longshanks,” who ruled from 1272 to 1307. Paleoenvironmental reconstruction refers to the geological investigations that seek to reconstruct the climate, aquatic conditions, and vegetation of a specific time and place. The articles were published in the following journals: Natural History and Antiquarian Society Monograph Series; Transactions, Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society, and Archaeology in Wales.
