A leading source of sheet music for musicians recently published the work of an associate professor of music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Associate Professor Larry Anderson's composition, "Rhapsody for 4 Timpani," was published by C. Alan Publications. Anderson described a rhapsody as a composition that combines the techniques of mixed meters with altering tempos. Timpani are large drums in the percussion family.

"While seeking quality timpani compositions for my students to perform, I recognized a need for additional literature in the medium to difficult range that would accomplish certain educational and performance goals," said Anderson, director of jazz and percussion at ULM.

His grade four solo composition compliments musical recitals and college juries through its challenging yet thorough display of rhapsody.

Anderson has been part of the university's faculty for 23 years and is dedicated to his musical passion.

"While teaching, I try to provide students with the materials, concepts and strategies to achieve excellence in their musical endeavors," said Anderson. "Whether it is as a music educator or music performer, I try to instill in the students the commitment, understanding and love for the discipline of music."
