ULM Athletic Foundation honors Guy Barr and ULM Professor of History Perry Jones
The Scogin Award was established in 1985 and is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary service to ULM Athletics and the ULM Athletic Foundation over a long period of time.
Barr, who serves on the ULM Athletic Foundation Board, has been an active member in the ULM Athletic Foundation for nearly 30 years. His service has included heading numerous committees within the Athletic Foundation while acting as an outstanding ambassador for the University within the Monroe/West Monroe community.
"We are extremely thankful for Guy's service to the University and the Athletic Foundation," ULM athletic director Bobby Staub said. "Without our hard-working volunteers like Guy, the Athletic Foundation would not be as successful as it is providing support for our student-athletes."
Dr. Jones joined the faculty at ULM in 1965 after serving his country in the Korean War. He took part in the Inchon landing and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service in the United States Marine Corps. Dr. Jones has tutored and helped a significant number of student-athletes in their academic pursuits for over 40 years and can been seen at almost every athletic event on campus.
"Our student-athletes are blessed to have a professor that not only cares about their academic futures, but also cares about them outside the classroom," Staub said. "We have an outstanding faculty at ULM and Dr. Jones is valuable member of the ULM Family."
The Athletic Foundation is the primary fundraising organization for the ULM athletics department. Its goal is to provide ULM student-athletes with the financial resources necessary to be successful both on the field and in the classroom.
