University of Louisiana Monroe Walk To End Alzheimer's Alzheimer's Association

MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe will host the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The event will begin in The Grove near Malone Stadium, with participants following a route that showcases the ULM campus while raising awareness and support for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness (ABAM). Teams that register at least five participants by June 30 will be recognized on the ABAM Teams Leading the Way Banner, highlighting organizations and groups helping lead the fight against Alzheimer’s in our community. Teams can register now at alz.org/walk

This inaugural partnership between ULM and the Alzheimer's Association reflects a shared commitment to improving the lives of those affected by dementia through education, research, advocacy, and community engagement. The event brings together the ongoing efforts of ULM faculty and students across multiple health-related disciplines with the Alzheimer's Association's mission to advance research and provide critical support services for patients and caregivers.

Renee Calloway, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Walk Manager, stated, “The Monroe and West Monroe Community has a long tradition of supporting meaningful causes, and the Walk to End Alzheimer's is no exception. Year after year, individuals, businesses, and organizations come together to make a difference. Their collective dedication helps fuel critical Alzheimer's care, support, and research while demonstrating the strength and heart of this remarkable community. We are excited that the Walk to Alzheimer's is on ULM's campus this year and are looking forward to this collaboration.”

The 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer's will feature family-friendly activities, opportunities to honor and remember loved ones affected by dementia, educational resources, community partner exhibits, and the signature Promise Garden ceremony, a powerful visual representation of the personal connections participants have to the disease.

“We are honored to join with the Alzheimer’s Association to host this important and meaningful event on our campus,” said ULM President Dr. Carrie L. Castille. “As our university helps train the next generation of healthcare providers, we understand the necessity of educating the community about Alzheimer’s and dementia, coming together to help fight this disease, and supporting the patients and families who are living through it.”

This year, Dr. Jennifer Whited, Director of the School of Allied Health, is serving as Chair of the Monroe Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
