Oath of a Pharmacist

Purpose: 

Kappa Epsilon is a nationally recognized professional pharmacy fraternity that fosters leadership, academic excellence, and community service within the pharmacy profession.  The Alpha Epsilon chapter is actively involved on campus and in the community, offering opportunities for student engagement, service, and professional development.  As part of our national focus, we support health-related outreach efforts, including advocacy and awareness initiatives tailored to breast and ovarian cancer.

Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists

The ULM Chapter of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists strives to make students aware of pharmacy practice in health systems; provide information to students about career directions and credentials needed for pharmacy practice in health systems; and encourage membership and participation in the state society and ASHP as a student and upon graduation.

National Community Pharmacists Association/Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association

Purpose:

The student branch of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association (LIPA) is committed to promoting interest in independent pharmacy ownership and entrepreneurship.  Our goals include building a strong foundation for the ULM chapter, expanding membership and community involvement, and offering leadership and educational opportunities.  We aim to advocate for independent pharmacy while connecting students with speakers and resources that highlight career paths in this field.

National Community Oncology Dispensing Association

Purpose:

The mission of ULM's National Community Oncology Dispensing Association, also known as NCODA, is to provide patient-centered collaborative care in cancer treatment.  As a student organization, we strive to improve and expand our fellow students' knowledge of the oncology world early in their academic careers.  Our organization's focus is to educate, empower, and connect the next generation of oncology leaders through meaningful opportunities in clinical education, research, leadership, and community outreach.  For our community outreach project, we help educate and register potential donors to the National Marrow Donor Program registry.  We are honored to present our members with a cord to recognize their contribution to our growing organization.

Phi Delta Chi

Purpose:

Phi Delta Chi is a professional pharmacy fraternity, whose mission is to provide a lifelong home for pharmacy professionals inspiring brotherhood, leadership, service, and scholarship.  The motto of our fraternity is a Latin phrase meaning "Each needs the help of the other".  Those you see wearing this Phi Delta Chi medal have united in brotherhood during their time in pharmacy school, pushing one another to the finish line that is today, and will continue to push one another towards continued excellence in all their pursuits.

The Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) is an educational service association of pharmacy students concerned about pharmacy and healthcare-related issues that can affect representation in pharmacy and other health-related professions.  The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward improving the community's health, educational, and social environment.  SNPhA aims to serve the underserved.

Student Research Club

Purpose:

Student Research Club's purpose is to introduce the vast potential for pharmaceutical research at the ULM College of Pharmacy by providing pathways for student awareness of and involvement in various research opportunities, professional programs and graduate programs.  It is open to any pre-pharmacy, pharmacy or graduate students, and the club hopes to entice the future members to explore the ongoing potential of research leading to the future of personalized medication.

College of Pharmacy Awards
Merck and Company Awards for Excellence in the Basic Sciences

 

Awards presented to three graduating seniors with outstanding achievement in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology, respectively.

 

The Albert P. Lauve Memorial Award

This award is given in memory of Albert P. Lauve, the "Father of Hospital Pharmacy in the State of Louisiana."  Mr. Lauve was Chief Pharmacist at Charity Hospital in New Orleans from 1928 to 1946, and at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans from 1946 until his retirement in 1965.  His pioneering efforts in many aspects of hospital pharmacy practice were outstanding.  However, his greatest achievement we in the development of formulations and procedures for manufacturing intravenous solutions in the hospital pharmacy.  Mr. Lauve was a chart member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and in 1964 was honored by the ASHP with their highest award, the Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award.  Mr. Lauve died in January of 1969 at the age of 77.  This memorial award is presented to a graduating senior of good moral character with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, who has made the highest achievement in hospital pharmacy-related courses and who has achieved above average performance in the hospital setting. 

 

Viatris Pharmaceutical Excellence in Pharmacy Award

 

With this award, Viatris desires to recognize high academic achievement and professional motivation of a graduate in a tangible and professionally meaningful manner.  This annual award is presented to a student who has demonstrated superior proficiency in the provision of drug information services, has demonstrated professional motivation, and is pursuing or has been accepted into a post-entry level residency program and is in the top 25% of his/her graduating class.  

 

The American Pharmacists Association Senior Recognition Certificate

 

An annual award presented to a graduating student member for his/her outstanding contribution to the local Academy of Students of Pharmacy chapter.  APhA will nationally recognize all of the honored students through its publication, the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association.

 

Award of Excellence in Clinical Communication

 

An annual award presented to a graduating senior in the top 25% of his/her class, and who has demonstrated superior verbal and written clinical communication skills.

 

USPHSP Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award

 

This award was established to recognize pharmacy students who make significant contributions to public health.  This includes advancing the objectives of Healthy People 2020, the National Prevention Strategy, the Surgeon General's initiatives, and the pharmacy profession.  

 

The Natural Medicine Comprehensive Database Recognition Award

 

An annual award presented to a graduating student who has exhibited some interest and expertise related to natural medicines, including efforts to minimize adverse effects due to inappropriate use, and to encourage an evidence-based approach to natural medicines.

 

The Joseph Samuel Carso Student Award

 

This award, in memory of Joseph Samuel Carso, is presented to a graduating pharmacy student of good moral character interested in a career in community pharmacy.

 

Lauren Savoy Olinde Award

 

This award is given to a 4th year Pharmacy student who overcame extraordinary challenges during their time in pharmacy school and completed the course of study with dignity and perseverance to earn their Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

 

Phi Lambda Sigma "Chapter Member of the Year Award"

 

This "Chapter Member of the Year" award is available to one member from each chapter on an annual basis.  This individual is chosen by his/her respective chapter based on contributions to pharmacy leadership and to the society.

 

NCPA Outstanding Student Award

 

The National Community Pharmacists Association is a national pharmacy association representing the professional and proprietary interests of independent community pharmacists across the country.  NCPA is dedicated to the continuing growth and prosperity of independent community pharmacy as well as training students for careers in independent pharmacy.

 

LSHP Outgoing President Award

 

This award is presented on behalf of he American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Pharmacy Student forum.  ULM's College of Pharmacy is officially recognized by the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

 

Louisiana Pharmacist Association Sr. Recognition

 

This award is given to 4th year Pharmacy students who have demonstrated genuine concern for pharmacy in the state of Louisiana.

 

Highest GPA

 

This award is given to a 4th year Pharmacy student who has the highest GPA in his/her graduating class.

 

Outstanding Graduate Student Award

 

This award is presented to the top Ph.D. graduate each academic year to acknowledge outstanding character, and exceptional academic and research accomplishments during his/her doctoral training in Pharmacy.
