How to Prepare for an Appointment
Once you have scheduled an appointment with the Career Development Office, it is important
to show up fully prepared to ensure your meeting is efficient and effective. Below
are the different services we provide in our office and how you can best prepare yourself
before your appointment.
Cover Letter/Resume Review
- Draft your resume and cover letter. Use our Resume Writing Guide and the Resume Tips and other tools provided on our Resume Writing page if you find yourself in need of assistance in this stage. We will help polish
your resume and not create it for you. Do your best, but you must have something for
us to edit.
- Bring two hard copies of your resume to your appointment. This way you can follow along with your Career Coach while adjustments are being
made. This will allow you to answer questions more quickly and effectively because
you can see what they see.
To be safe, you can email a copy of your resume to the staff member you will be seeing
prior to your appointment and/or bring a USB drive with a copy on it.
Mock Interview
- Be sure to specify what you are interviewing for. Graduate school, Organization, Internship, Employment, etc.
- Give a list of any, if any, specific questions you would like to be asked during your
interview.
- Bring two copies of your resume. Professional dress is not required for a mock interview, however if you would like
to be critiqued on interview attire, you are welcome to dress as you would for an
actual interview.
*For all appointments: Show up on time. If you cannot make it to your appointment,
be sure to reschedule or cancel your appointment well before your scheduled time by
calling our office at 318-342-5338.
