Sarah Torregrossa crowned Miss ULM 2016

Sarah Torregrossa, a junior mass communications major from West Monroe, was crowned Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe at the 63rd Annual Miss ULM Pageant held Nov. 6, in front of a packed house at Brown Auditorium.

Torregrossa’s platform is “Project 41” and she gave a vocal performance as her talent. She also received the preliminary interview award.

First runner-up was Samantha Vaughn of West Monroe. Second runner-up was Alyssa Fontenot of Pineville. Third runner-up was Gabrielle Ingram of Natchitoches, who also won the People’s Choice award. Fourth runner-up was Ashlynn Lanford of Pineville, who also received the preliminary evening wear award.

Emily Reese of Leesville won the Advertisement Sales Award; Elaine Blanco of Leeseville won the Miss Congeniality Award; Baylea Huffman of Delhi won the Non-Finalist Academic Award, as well as the preliminary swim award; and Kylie Coughran of West Monroe received the preliminary talent award.  

The Miss ULM Pageant is a preliminary to the Miss Louisiana Pageant, sponsored by ULM’s Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association.

The competitive scholarship program emphasizes physical fitness, talent, public speaking, and academics. Contestants must demonstrate poise, personality, intelligence, and charm during the pageant, and must showcase a trained talent in a 90-second performance.

Miss ULM scholarship awards:

Miss ULM receives a $2,000 scholarship for two semesters, a private, one-bedroom on-campus apartment, an award from the bookstore worth $300, a two-semester meal plan awarded by the Campus Activities Board, and a $4,500 cash prize awarded by the Student Government Association.

First runner-up: receives a $2,000 scholarship for two semesters from the Campus Activities Board.

Second runner-up: receives a $2,000 scholarship for one semester from the Campus Activities Board.

Third runner-up: receives a one-time $1,000 scholarship from the Student Government Association.

Fourth runner-up: receives a one-time $750 scholarship from the Student Government Association.

Advertisement Sales winner: receives a one-time $250 scholarship from the Campus Activities Board.

People’s Choice winner: receives a one-time $250 scholarship from the Campus Activities Board.

Miss Congeniality winner: receives a one-time $250 scholarship from the Campus Activities Board.

Non-Finalist Academic winner: receives a one-time $250 scholarship from the Student Government Association.

Erika Guerrero, a junior dental hygiene major from Oak Grove; Ashtyn Davis, a sophomore pre-dental hygiene major from Delhi; Ashley Camp, a senior biology major from Calhoun; Samantha Vaughn, a senior communications major from West Monroe; Elaine Blanco, a junior communications major from Leesville.

Kylie Coughran, a sophomore toxicology major from West Monroe; Gabrielle Ingram, a sophomore pre-dental hygiene major from Natchitoches; Haley Graham, a sophomore accounting major from Mangham; Ashlynn Lanford, a freshman kinesiology major from Pineville; Baylea Huffman, a freshman pre-speech language pathology major from Delhi. 

Kaitlynn Frey, a junior elementary education major from Rosepine; Sarah Torregrossa, a junior mass communications major from West Monroe; Jo’ Hilliard, a senior nursing major from Baton Rouge; Alyssa Fontenot, a junior accounting major from Pineville; Emily Reese, a junior speech pathology major from Leesville.
