The two classes, taught by Dr. Jana Giles, associate professor of English, were themed around the environment, climate change, and sustainability over the course of the semester. In addition to reading current news and books on climate change and writing research essays for the course, the students organized a campus-wide event to promote greater awareness of the urgency of addressing climate change.

In exchange for candy and flyers with information about how to recycle, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to collect bottles in advance and bring them to the quad for collection.

At the end of the day, students will deliver them to Marck Recycling on Arkansas Road in Monroe.

National Recycling Day is officially held this year on Sunday, Nov. 15.
