MONROE, LA – The ULM Reginald F. Lewis Scholars will be outfitted with professional business suits thanks to a donation from JC Penney at Pecanland Mall as part of their bi-annual Suit-Up event on Sunday, February 4 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is open to ULM students, faculty, and staff, who can receive up to 50% off select career wear with their ULM ID.

“We are so very grateful that our local JC Penney is providing the seven ULM Reginald F. Lewis Scholars with professional business suits,” said Kellye Blackburn, Director of Employer Relations and Outreach at ULM. “The RFL Scholars represent ULM at important events in Louisiana and internationally. You only get one chance to make a good first impression,” said Blackburn. “I want to say a special thanks to JC Penney General Manager Ashley Adeleke for helping ensure our RFL Scholars are dressed well for future events,” Blackburn added.

Adeleke says JC Penney will be donating $1,400 for the Reginald F. Lewis Scholars. “JC Penney is sponsoring the Reginald F. Lewis Scholars to help facilitate professional business attire for the young men as they embark on learning and mentoring opportunities in the community, country, and abroad,” said Adeleke. “The Suit-Up event helps build great relationships in the community through JC Penney’s clothing and accessories with excellent value,” she added.

“It is with great excitement that I applaud Kellye Blackburn for forging a relationship with JC Penney’s Suit-Up representatives. We look forward to other opportunities to serve more students,” said ULM Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Valerie S. Fields.

JC Penney Suit-Up is a biannual event held each semester for students from local universities to kick off the internship and full-time job recruitment season. Professional clothing goes on sale for up to a 50% discount. Students are encouraged to stock up on everything they need to dress for success for upcoming ULM Spring 2024 career fairs and job interviews. Suit-Up is not only open to students; faculty and staff are also welcome to attend. Click here for additional details.
