Radiologic Technology students and faculty represent ULM at LSRT Annual Conference

MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe Radiologic Technology students attended and competed in state competitions with several other schools at the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists (LSRT) Annual Conference this summer. The entire Senior class, consisting of 43 students, attended the conference, along with five faculty members. 

ULM Radiologic Technology students competed in four competitions, winning first place in the Quiz Bowl, first and third places in the Student Exhibit competition, and second place in the Student Essay competition. Teams also competed in a t-shirt design competition.  

The Quiz Bowl team included Destiny Augustine, Zoey Craig, Katie Marcantel, Drake Prunty, Nathan Seward, and Jaiden Turner. The team was coached by Mr. Jason Smith.  

Sabrina Dickson placed second in the Student Essay competition with her submission of “Revolutionizing Pathology: The Merge of CT Imaging with Radiomics and Radiogenomics.” Olivia Faith Breeland won first place in the Student Exhibit competition with her submission of “What is the Role of Imaging in Diagnosing Parkinson’s Disease?” Reese Magallanes earned third place in the Student Exhibit competition with “Cranial Ultrasound in Neonates: A Non-Invasive Window into the Brain.”  

Three nominated students also attended the prestigious LSRT Student Leadership Development Program: Destiny Augustine, Drake Prunty, and Nathan Seward. These students attended a specialized program to develop leadership skills and had the opportunity to network with various leaders across the state. 

The Louisiana State Radiologic Technologist Board of Examiners (LSRTBE) is the board that issues and manages the licenses for all licensed medical imagers in the state.  The Executive Director of that board Mrs. Hollie Taranto is a ULM alumna of the RT to BSRT program. She was awarded the Technologist of the Year award for 2026. The recognition is for her work in upholding the standards for medical imaging in Louisiana for the benefit of patient safety in imaging. 

The ULM Program Director Mr. Brett Bennett said, “From the students demonstrating hard work both academically and in research to ULM graduates making a difference in the leadership direction of the state, the program at ULM continues to reflect positively on Northeast Louisiana and this great university.”
