The Risk Management and Insurance program at ULM is one of only about 30 in the United States. Courses cover a broad range of risk management and insurance topics including Business Risk Management, Commercial and Personal Property/Casualty, and Employee Benefits. Additionally, ULM requires a unique course in Surplus Lines and Reinsurance.
Graduates of the program are in high demand for underwriting, brokerage, risk management, and claims positions.
Class sizes in Risk Management and Insurance are relatively small, ensuring each student has the opportunity to seek and receive personal attention from his/her professor. Additionally, students have a Risk Management and Insurance advisor who sees them through their college experience, from deciding what elective courses to take all the way to helping them secure a suitable job as they near graduation. Most students participate in a for-credit internship experience prior to graduation.
Students also have opportunities to apply for numerous insurance scholarships, tour insurance companies, and take trips to industry conferences. Additionally, professionals representing the major insurance companies and brokers from around the country speak at weekly meetings of the Risk Management and Insurance society.
The Risk Management and Insurance program is accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
