LOAN COLLECTIONS Loan Programs The Federal Perkins Loan Program includes Federal Perkins Loans, National Direct Student Loans (NDSLs) and National Defense Student Loans (Defense Loans). [No new Defense Loans were made after July 1, 1972, but a few are still in repayment.] Perkins Loans and NDSLs are low-interest (currently 5%), long-term loans made through school financial aid offices to help needy undergraduate and graduate students pay for post-secondary education. Health Professions Loans are also low-interest (currently 5%), long-term loans made to help needy undergraduate students pursuing a Pharmacy degree. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to apply for loans.
How To Make A Loan Payment Loan payments are due by the 1st of each month. You will be mailed a monthly statement as a reminder; however, even if you do not receive a statement, you are responsible for making your payment by the 1st. If you have not received a statement and need to verify your payment amount, please contact the Student Loan Department at (318) 342-5118. Payments may be made by several methods. Cash, money orders, or personal checks are accepted either in person or by mail. Credit or debit cards bearing the Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express logo are accepted at La Cap Credit Union [#6 on Map] either by person or phone (318) 342-5130. If you are mailing your payment, please remember that your payment must be received by the Student Loan Department on or before the 1st of the month. You should allow sufficient time for your payment to be delivered. Additionally, please include the returnable portion of your statement or write your loan ID number (your Social Security Number) on your payment. This assists in making sure your payment is posted to your account properly.
Change of Address As outlined in your Perkins Loan Promissory Note, it is the student's responsibility to update personal contact information if the information has changed. Failure to update contact information could cause delays in or failure of delivery of important Perkins Loan correspondence. To update your contact information, please complete the Change of Address Form, and submit the completed form by any of the following methods:
