What is Monroe City Scholars?
A partnership between ULM and Monroe City School
District, the program provides science enrichment to middle school students in
Monroe City schools a summer science institute.
What are the Summer
Science Institutes?
The Summer Science Institute is a free 6-day, 6-night residential science
camps held on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus.
Summer Science Institute 2012:
Adventures in SLIME
July 15-21, 2012
Follow the path of the
polymers that make up plastics, plywood and propellants.
This camp takes you to a different industrial site each morning to see how
slime (or polymers) can be a pathway to careers in local industry.
In the afternoon you will work with a real college professor to investigate
different aspects and impacts of these industries through Chemistry,
Atmospheric Sciences or Biology.
Who can attend the
Summer Institutes?
If you will be going
into 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2012 and are currently enrolled in
the Monroe City School District with a 2.5 GPA, or an advanced in Science
on the iLEAP or LEAP and a good disciplinary record you qualify for a full scholarship
to the camp.
How do I apply?
Release forms must be completed and brought to the camp when you drop off your
