SUSAN OLSON, Mezzo-soprano, will be joining Louisiana Lyric Opera to play the part of Ruth in “Pirates of Penzance.” 

She has been seen recently as the Old Lady in Bernstein’s “Candide,” Cecelia March in Adamo’s “Little Women,” Mme. Flora in Menotti’s “The Medium,” and Mrs. Anderssen in Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.”

Other shows include “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Godspell,” “Man of La Mancha,” “A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine,” “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “The King and I,” “Baby,” and “Evita.”  She has also been heard as a soloist on the concert stage, recently with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9” and Mozart’s “Requiem,” and the Zanesville (OH) Civic Orchestra and Chorus and Westerville (OH) Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s “Messiah.”  Susan was a member of the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, performing and recording in Europe and the United States. 

Olson earned her doctor of musical arts in vocal performance and master of arts in vocal pedagogy degrees from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in music in vocal performance from Capital University Conservatory of Music.  She is currently assistant professor of voice at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
