The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology prepares students for a variety of exciting career options. In addition to students wanting to pursue careers or graduate school training in one of the many biological science disciplines, a Biology degree can also fulfill requirements for admission to medical, dental, veterinary, optometry, or pharmacy schools.

In addition to the general Biology degree, students have the opportunity to pursue concentrations in the following areas: Chemical Biology, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Molecular Biology & Biotechnology.

Museum of Natural History

The mission of the University of Louisiana Monroe Museum of Natural History is to promote and advance an understanding and appreciation of all aspects of natural history based on its collections, exhibits, education, and research. Furthermore, the Museum will emphasize the natural history of North Louisiana. It includes the biodiversity, paleontology, geology, and archeology of the area as it relates to the global environment and supports the generation, synthesis and dissemination of natural history information through appropriate activities for the ULM community, the public, and the youth of the surrounding region.

Pre-Medical Advisory Committee

Faculty members from across ULM's campus comprise the Pre-Medical Advisory Committee. The faculty members work with pre-medical students during their junior and senior year at ULM to prepare for the Medical School application process. Students from multiple disciplines can take advantage of the committee. Any student applying to Medical School, Dental School, Physician Assistant School, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometry School or Veterinary School can utilize the committee.

Biology minor

Biology Minor is 23 hours of Biology coursework.

Graduate program

Graduate students in Biology work towards earning a Masters of Science degree in Biology. ULM offers both a thesis and a non-thesis option; both require 33 graduate hours to complete.

Sandel Hall provides several multimedia classrooms and conference rooms with cutting-edge interactive features as well as a state-of-the art biology laboratory.

Students interested in a pre-professional curriculum will be assigned a highly knowledgeable pre-professional advisor to ensure that they take courses that will best suit their future plans.
