Group Class Schedule for Spring 2008

All music group classes are held at the ULM Division of Music, 700 University Ave., Monroe.

The Spring Semester Recital will be on Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10 a.m., Biedenharn Recital Hall, ULM campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Early Childhood Music for 4-6 year olds
Thursdays, 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., Room TBA, Cost: $80/child

This program is designed to introduce the young child to music through song, dance, rhythmic movement, and play. These classes prepare the young child for later formal instrumental study. It is an ideal way to begin a musical experience.
A corresponding CD and song booklet for an additional $22 will be ordered from Musikgarten (our curriculum of choice) for you upon request. Please indicate your preference on the registration form. No previous musical training necessary. 8 spots available.

Music Theory I for K and 1st graders
Thursdays, 3:30-4:10 p.m., Room TBA, Ms. Joy Smith, Cost: $80/child/semester

For beginning instrumentalists who have had little or no music theory training before. We’ll be using “Music Mind Games” by Michiko Yurko. 5 spots available.

Music Theory II for 2nd and 3rd graders
Thursdays, 4:15-4:55 p.m., Room TBA, Ms. Joy Smith, Cost: $80/child/semester

For students who have completed Music Theory I or who have a basic knowledge of music theory. We’ll continue with “Music Mind Games” by Michiko Yurko. 5 spots available.

String Chamber Music I
Thursdays, 4:15-4:55 p.m., Room TBA, Mrs. Ildiko Lusk, Cost: $80/child/semester

Requirements: for violin/viola/cello/double bass students who can read music and are at least in either the Suzuki Book 2 and/or the beginning of Essential Elements Book 2 (or any other equivalent method book).
We will enjoy learning pieces for string ensemble, playing in tune together, review posture and bow technique and have fun! 8 spots available.

String Chamber Music II
Thursdays, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Room TBA, Ms. Joy Smith, Cost: $80/child/semester

Requirements: For violinists/violists/cellists 13+ years old. Violinists and violists need to be comfortable playing in 3rd position, and cellists in 4th position. For placement and more information, please contact Joy Smith at violiner82@bellsouth.net. Students need to purchase “Music Plus- An Incredible Collection” by William Starr (either the violin/viola or cello part)- available at Zeagler Music in Monroe. Please purchase this book over the summer and start learning the music. 12 spots available.

Music Appreciation
Thursdays, 4:15-4:55 p.m., Room TBA, Mrs. Marilynn Gibson, Cost: $80/child/semester

Various musical selections in different genres will be listened to and discussed.
