The Master of Arts in Teaching (M. A. T.) - Secondary Education (Grades 6-12) Alternative Certification is a 36-hour program. It allows individuals already possessing a Bachelors degree in a field outside of education to pursue Louisiana teacher certification. Areas include English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, General Science Social Studies, Foreign Language, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Speech.

In addition to the requirements for admission to the ULM Graduate School, applicants for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program must meet all of the following criteria:
