Got a Problem? FIXX It Online! You're sitting in your office, and one of your lights goes out. What do you do? Well, it's easy: FIXX Online is up and running, and makes it easier and more convenient to report problems. All you have to do now is hop online, go to http://fixx.ulm.edu, and submit a FIXX request. To submit a request, you select the building you're in, fill in a form with your name, number, e-mail address, and request information. After submitting your request, you're given a service request number and are e-mailed upon acceptance of your request. Many people have already used the service. "Since we went online the first week of February, we have received over 900 requests over the internet. I anticipate that will go up," said Chris Ringo, Assistant Director of the Physical Plant. This 24-hour service can be used by all of ULM to report problems with campus buildings, equipment, and grounds. With this system, the Physical Plant can process requests quickly and schedule work in an efficient manner. Dr. David Roane, head of the Biology Department, has used FIXX Online several times and was pleased. "I'm glad to see the university moving in this direction, that is, taking advantage of our online capabilities and diminishing paper," he said. Others like how quickly FIXX Online responds. Dr. Ruth Smith, head of the Foreign Language Department, had a leaky ceiling and reported it to FIXX Online. Smith said, “The roof in my office was threatening to dump water on my computer. I reported it at about 6:30 p.m. in the evening and a gentleman appeared by 10:00 a.m. the next morning to address the problem. This was the quickest response I have ever had.” Aline Stone, a student living in Cosper Hall, had a light out in her room, and FIXX responded in two hours. Stone said, “I couldn’t believe it. I went to their site at about 12:30 p.m., I got an e-mail response by 1:00 p.m., and I came back to my room at 2:45 p.m. and the light was fixed.” The new way to FIXX it is fast and easy for faculty and students, and will help the physical plant run more smoothly. So next time you have a problem, FIXX it Online.
