ULM Traditions Book Underway The University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently compiling a book on the university’s traditions, tentatively titled, “The Bayou.” The book will trace the university’s history from a two-year college at its conception in 1931, to the institution that it is today, by discussing the history behind many of ULM’s icons and traditions. As the ULM grows, it is important to remember the people and events that played a part in building it. The goal of the book is to record and preserve the history of the university for future classes. It will be made available to the public, but will also be given to prospective students as a way of informing them further about the institution that they stand to become a part of. The book is being compiled by a committee of employees and friends of the university, including professors, university historians, and alumni. It will focus on high points and milestones in ULM’s history, everything from the purely historical, to the people and trademark annual events that give ULM its personality. The book will include sections on the history of the alma mater, the school mascot, the Sound of Today marching band, university publications, and athletics, among many others. For further information, or if you are interested in donating stories, or photographs for the book, contact Amy Weems, High School and Community Relations Officer, Department of Recruitment / Admissions, (318) 342-5489.
