Upcoming Events

The Department of Agriculture will hold its Annual Spring Plant Sale April 16 and 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 3903 Bon Aire Drive . They will have annual bedding plants, hanging baskets, herbs, and much more. For more information call 342-1766.

The spring football clinic for high school and junior high students is scheduled for April 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and April 3 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the football office complex.

The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities Teacher Institute for Advanced Study “America: Its Dream and Its Drama”will take place June 7-July 1. For more information contact Dr. Janet Haedicke, English, at 1494.

Dance Presentation: On April 30 at 12:00 noon students enrolled in dance classes will perform jazz, tap, modern, fold, and social dance in front of the library. Free admission and open to all. For more infornation contact Sara Sanders, Dance, at 1312.

Gerontology Travel Course:  Summer 2004
Dr. Chris Johnson will lead a group of students and interested professionals to Scotland from July 15-28 for a study titled “New Approaches to Dementia Care.”  The course will be offered in conjunction with the Dementia Services Development Centre of the University of Stirling . Stirling is the city where the William Wallace castle resides, a landmark seen in the movie Braveheart. 

Professor Mary Marshall, an international expert on dementia, will lead the innovative summer school at the Iris Murdoch Building , a facility designed to be dementia-friendly. The course will involve a series of lectures, visits and feedback/review sessions by leading practitioners in the field of gerontology and dementia. One of the practitioners will be Roxann Johnson of Aging Consultants Inc. Johnson is a nationally known gerontologist and expert on dementia who lives in Monroe . There will be an international dimension with contributors and participants from the United States , Scotland , Germany and other countries. The course will offer 3 hours of either undergraduate or graduate credit. If taken for credit, the class will involve online assignments prior to the actual trip. The course can be taken for non-credit.

The cost of the trip is $2450. This amount includes airfare to/from Scotland, fees and supplies at the University of Stirling, lodging at dorms during the course (lodging at a bed-and-breakfast or a hotel can be arranged for an extra fee), and noon meals during the course. This amount does NOT include ULM tuition, evening meals, noon meals when the course is not in session or lodging after the completion of the session. (A few days after the course will allow for personal travel throughout Scotland .) Participants will be required to put down a $100 non-refundable deposit for the airline by April 9.
